Fourteen years after its inception the BCS still can’t get it right. Or can it? My vote would be for the latter, and i’m sure the majority of you will disagree. In some cases you may be right, but the system was created to select the best teams for the National Championship Game. For that purpose it may be the best system in any sport. I would argue no other sport on a consistent basis gets the two best regular season teams playing for a championship.
This season is a perfect example. LSU will play Alabama in a rematch of a game from earlier this year. Six weeks ago this game was coined ” Game of the Century” the teams were so evenly matched it took overtime to decide it. 45 days later nobody wants to see it? Almost everyone agrees these are the two best teams. The whole “I just wanna see someone different” is just lame, and who doesn’t love a good sequel? The 07 Superbowl rematch was great, Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard II was fantastic, and Mighty Ducks 2…OK that kinda sucked. Point being just because teams have previously played shouldn’t eliminate them from an opportunity they earned.
For everyone clamoring for a playoff, look no matter how many teams you put in, it will never be enough. March Madness which every one seems to love has what, 68 teams now? As soon as there announced the first thing everyone complains about, who got left out. Now how is that any better? Because everyone gets a chance? It also allows inferior teams to get hot on any given night and beat more deserving, talanted teams. Really, Butler vs UConn? Yea theres your playoff system. A middle of the pack Big-east team vs a team that 13-5 in the Horizon leauge.
I get that the other BCS games are all about the cash, and as far as thats concerned the BCS is a little off. But as just fans of football is there really a difference in Michigan vs Va. Tech and Boise St vs Baylor?
In my opinion the BCS nails it every time with the championship game. Worst case scenario I for sure get #1 vs #3 and Ill take that everyday over possibly getting #5 vs #7 or in march madness case #12 vs #28. Im a strong believer in “if it aint broke, don’t fix it” and 14 for 14 isn’t bad.
I dsagree with them all being right, but that is for another day ( I bet Tim knows the one..lol). Over all I think it is as good as it gets. No matter what happens, someone will find a flaw.
